Countryside tour in the rain

Bohol's rainy season runs from June to November, and countryside tours keep running through it. Wet spells are part of the deal; a typhoon is the thing to watch, mostly late in the year.

The seasons below follow PAGASA, the national weather agency. The notes on the Loboc River and the ferries come from news reports of official notices: GMA Regional TV, GMA News and ABS-CBN.

In short: book with free cancellation, keep a spare day in your plan and pack for a wet afternoon.

The quick answer

Countryside tours run in the rainy season, June to November, through a greener landscape. A Loboc River cruise can pause for a storm, as it did from 4 February 2026 for Tropical Depression Basyang, and typhoon risk rises late in the year. Every tour on this site has free cancellation up to 24 hours before, per the listings.

When is the rainy season in Bohol?

June to November, per PAGASA. The dry season runs from December to May: cool and dry from December to February, hot and dry from March to May.

Those are national seasons, and Bohol's weather can swing from week to week. 2026 has a twist. In May, PAGASA's Bohol office put the chance of El Niño at 79 percent from June to August, possibly lasting into early 2027, with drier-than-usual conditions and a delayed rainy season, the Provincial Government of Bohol reported on 11 June 2026.

For a countryside day that matters less than you might think. The stops are inland and the walks are short; the river and the ferries are what answer to the weather.

Do Bohol countryside tours run in the rain?

Yes. Tours run through the wet season, and some listings add bonus stops only when time and weather allow.

Rain changes the feel more than the route. The Chocolate Hills turn green and often misty, and the steps up to the deck, about 214 of them, get slick: take them slowly and hold the railing. At the Tarsier Sanctuary in Corella the tarsiers sleep in the leaves whatever the weather, and the Philippine Tarsier Foundation asks for quiet voices and no flash, rain or shine. The Bilar man-made forest, over 2 km of mahogany along the road, looks its best wet.

Good teams plan for showers. Alicia (Oct 2026) wrote about her guided day: “Nicole provided us with umbrellas so that we could make the most of our day trip.”

Mist on the hills is the wet-season bonus: the view changes every few minutes.

Does the Loboc River cruise run in the rainy season?

Yes, with pauses for storms. The Loboc tourism office suspended water activities, the floating restaurants included, from 4 February 2026 for Tropical Depression Basyang.

That pause, reported by GMA Regional TV, was still in place on 6 February and lifted with the weather. Pauses follow the storms; after Typhoon Odette in December 2021 the cruise resumed in March 2022, about two months later, ABS-CBN reported.

If the river is closed on your day, the listings already have the fallback: lunch at a restaurant by the river instead of the cruise buffet. On tours where the cruise is optional, about ₱1,200 per person per the listings, you decide on the day. The Loboc River cruise guide has the rest.

When is typhoon risk highest in Bohol?

Late in the year. Typhoon Odette hit Bohol in December 2021, and storms that pass elsewhere can still stop ferry trips at short notice.

A typhoon does not have to hit Bohol to touch your trip. On 10 July 2026 the Philippine Ports Authority listed a Getafe, Bohol to Cebu trip among its cancellations during Typhoon Inday, GMA News reported. When a storm signal goes up over a sea area, the Philippine Coast Guard can suspend sea travel there.

That matters most from Cebu. The countryside tour from Cebu depends on two fast-ferry crossings of about 2 hours each. In the wet months, put the countryside day early in your stay so a weather day can roll over, and check PAGASA's bulletins the evening before.

How do tour operators handle bad weather?

Every tour on this site has free cancellation up to 24 hours before, per the listings. Check the forecast the day before and move your date if a storm is coming.

On the day, the team reads the weather for you. The Panglao Island Tour days add bonus stops such as Baclayon Church or a cave when time and weather allow. The sea is stricter: the dolphin and Balicasag trip returns around 11:30 a.m., subject to sea conditions, per the listing.

A private tour gives you the most room to adjust. Aitor (Oct 2026) on the private countryside tour: “you can go at your own pace without being rushed.”

What should you pack for a countryside tour in the rainy season?

A light rain jacket or an umbrella, shoes with grip, a dry bag for your phone, a change of clothes and your pesos in a zip bag.

  • A rain layer. A light jacket or a compact umbrella; you are in and out of the van all day.
  • Shoes with grip for the wet steps at the Chocolate Hills and the forest trail at the tarsier sanctuary.
  • A dry bag or zip bags for your phone and cash. The paddleboard tour's listing asks for a waterproof bag and a change of clothes.
  • Covered shoulders and knees for Baclayon Church and Loboc Church.
  • Insect repellent for the forest stops.
  • Sunscreen and a hat anyway. The sun comes out hard between showers.
