Bohol Countryside Tour: Chocolate Hills & Tarsiers

About this experience

This is the countryside tour most visitors to Bohol end up on, with more than 1,200 reviews. A van collects you from your hotel anywhere on Panglao Island and heads inland, about 1.5 hours by road to the Chocolate Hills, the 1,776 grassy mounds protected as a Natural Monument since 1997. Your coordinator gives you the background and helps with photos from the top viewpoint. Then come the tarsiers in a quiet forest conservation area, a stop under the mahogany trees of the man-made forest, and lunch at Loboc. When time allows, the team adds Baclayon Church or an underground cave on the way back.

The operator runs it with an experienced coordinator plus extra staff, for groups of up to 20. Pickups start from 7:30 AM and you are usually back around 4:25 PM, per the listing; traffic and group pace can move that a little. Staying in Tagbilaran or Loboc? There are meeting points at Mario's Café in Tagbilaran and the 7-Eleven in Loboc. The vans are air-conditioned and roomy, which you will appreciate on the drive back.

The price covers the van, the team and the pickup. Two things are paid on the day in pesos, per the listing: ₱500 per person for entrance and environmental fees, and lunch. At Loboc you choose the Loboc River cruise with buffet lunch at ₱1,200 per person, or a meal at the partner restaurant by the river, charged by what you order. Put ₱500 per person in an envelope the night before and you are set. Free cancellation up to 24 hours before the start, and you can reserve now and pay later.

Tips before you book

  • Bring pesos in small notes: ₱500 per person for the fees, plus ₱1,200 each if you want the river cruise lunch, per the listing.
  • The main viewing deck at the Chocolate Hills Complex in Carmen is about 214 steps up, so wear shoes with grip. Water and a hat help too; there is little shade on top.
  • Tarsiers are nocturnal, so you will see them asleep or half awake in the leaves. The Philippine Tarsier Foundation asks visitors to keep their voices low, switch off the flash and never touch or feed them.
  • Baclayon Church was restored after the 2013 earthquake. Cover shoulders and knees if you go inside.
  • June to November is the rainy season (PAGASA). Pack a light rain jacket for the showers; the hills are at their greenest in the wet months. In heavy weather the Loboc River cruise can pause, as it did from 4 February 2026 for Tropical Depression Basyang.
