The hills by ATV

Chocolate Hills ATV Ride & Loboc River Lunch

About this experience

The listing calls this an exclusive tour, and guests describe a driver collecting them from their hotel in a private car. Pickup is in Panglao or Tagbilaran. The Chocolate Hills come first, with about an hour at the complex and the climb to the viewing deck. Then the ATV: one hour and about 12 km of rough trails, with mud and puddles for much of the year. After that the pace drops, with lunch on the Loboc River, the tarsier sanctuary and a drive under the mahogany of the Bilar man-made forest. Allow about eight hours.

Nearly everything is in the price, per the listing: the ATV admission, the Chocolate Hills and tarsier sanctuary entry, the Loboc River lunch buffet, the driver, fuel and the hotel transfers. You pay on the day only if you extend the ride by 30 minutes, for a fee on site, plus tips and anything you buy. Travel insurance is your own.

Pack a change of clothes. The ride leaves you dusty or muddy, and lunch on the river is a lot nicer in a dry shirt. The listing says the tour is not suitable for pregnant women, people with pre-existing medical conditions or people with high blood pressure.

Our driver, Kuya Tata was very friendly, patient, and had a comfortable car. He ensured that we had everything we needed for the day, including a change of clothes after the ATVs, and modest clothes for Baclayon Church. The ATVs were the highlight of the day, though everything we experienced was incredible.

This experience exceeded my expectations! It was such a fun time. [...] The bug car (ATV), sanctuary, and floating restaurant experiences each added a unique element to the tour. [...] The best part was that the guide drove safely and responsibly. Thank you!

For a fast-paced and full day with great discoveries, both in terms of people and things to do and in terms of the scenery, this activity is perfect. Very good value for the money.

Tips before you book

  • Bring a full change of clothes and a plastic bag for the muddy set. Closed shoes beat sandals on the trail.
  • Guests mention a stop at Baclayon Church, so pack something that covers shoulders and knees.
  • Bring pesos in small notes. Snacks, souvenirs, tips and add-ons are paid in cash, and small stalls rarely take cards.
  • Keep your voice low and your flash off at the tarsiers. The Philippine Tarsier Foundation asks visitors not to touch or feed them: they are nocturnal, sleep through the day and stress easily, so a quiet group sees them best.
  • In the rainy season (June to November) the trails turn to deep puddles. Riders in the reviews call that the best part.
